What a board. Six shot lead — gone. Rory went 1-over while the entire rest of the contenders went low. Augusta said "not yet." It's exactly what makes this tournament what it is.
Rory — overcooked a long iron into 11, the ball went kerplunk straight into the pond. Double bogey. Then bogey on 12, lead completely gone. Then birdies on 14 and 15 to retake the lead, before a bogey on 17 let Young back in. Finished tied at -11. After the round: "This golf course has a way of, when you're not quite feeling it, you struggle. You have to dig deep, and I felt like I did that... I still have a great chance. I'm in the final group. I just need to figure it out a little bit."
Cameron Young — shot 65, 8 birdies, 1 bogey. Briefly held the solo lead at the par-3 16th. His drive on 13 hit a tree and miraculously kicked back into the fairway. Augusta likes him. Tied for the lead heading into Sunday.
Scottie Scheffler — hello, world. Eagle on 2, birdies everywhere, a 65 to go from 12 back to -7. The irons are back and he's absolutely in this thing.
Shane Lowry — aced the par-3 6th. His SECOND career hole-in-one at Augusta. The first was on 16 exactly a decade ago. Rounds of 70-69-68, trending the right direction at -9.
Sam Burns — bogey-free 68, steady as a rock, sitting at -10 one back. "I can't control anything Rory does. Control what we can control — our attitude, our emotions."
Haotong Li — almost withdrew Friday with stomach issues. Shot 69 Saturday, nearly eagled 8, sits at -7. Remarkable.
Sunday leaderboard: T1 Rory McIlroy / Cam Young (-11) · 3rd Sam Burns (-10) · 4th Shane Lowry (-9) · T5 Jason Day / Justin Rose (-8) · T7 Scottie Scheffler / Haotong Li (-7). Eleven players within 5 shots. Buckle up.

How are you spending Sunday at Augusta? Over here we've got pimento cheese sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, pulled pork, peach ice cream sandwiches, and some azaleas in Masters cups to wash it all down. Drop your setup in the Water Cooler Talk. Can't wait for the Back 9 on Sunday. Enjoy all! 🌸⛳
Hot damn did that round end in fury. Six birdies over his final seven holes. A chip-in on 17. Four straight birdies to close it out. The man is lapping the field — and doing it from the trees, no less. Twice he had to lay up from the pines on the par 5s and still made birdie. The largest 36-hole lead in Masters history. -12. Six clear.
Rory after the round: "I knew I had some chances coming in when I was standing on the 12th tee, but I didn't think I'd birdie six of the last seven. It just shows what you can do around here."
On staying grounded: "I know what can happen around here, good and bad. You don't have to remind me not to get ahead of myself. There's a long way to go. I got off to an amazing start."
On his mindset: "My little mantra to myself today was keep swinging, keep swinging hard at it, even if you're not hitting fairways, just keep swinging."
Freddie Couples after R1 said "Rory may never lose this thing again after last year." When asked about that quote after R2, Rory said those kinds of comments aren't helpful — but noted he did appreciate Jack Nicklaus pulling him aside before R1 and saying "no f---ing double bogeys." Jack knows.
Tyrrell Hatton shot a 66 hitting all 18 greens in regulation — only the third player in 30 years to do that at Augusta. He's -4, dangerous heading into the weekend.
Scottie Scheffler — a rough Friday. A 74 puts the world No. 1 twelve shots back. Not ideal.
Bryson — triple bogey on 18 to miss the cut at +6. Walking off the course after a meltdown for the ages. PFFFFffFFfft, part two.
Mason Howell played alongside Rory all week and got a front-row seat to history. On the chip-in at 17: "That was one of the coolest things I've seen in sports, and I got to witness it in person."
C. COCHRAN enters the weekend with a FOUR shot lead over a field of 879. What world is that?! On the Tournament Info page you can always see "chasing perfect" — ladies and gentlemen, we are currently just 1 shot shy of the Perfect Team. The difference? Rose over Reed.

Thursday is in the books, and what a start. A couple quick-hit thoughts from the day:
Rory picks up right where he left off — a clean 67, strolling into the Champions locker room like he owns it. Because he does. Is this a new Rory? Or just... Rory?
Quietly, Sam Burns played the Par 5s in -5. A good friend once told me it's all about Par 5 scoring at Augusta. Co-leader heading into Friday.
MacIntyre brought full theater — flicking off the course, that shirt, go watch the putt on 13. Bobby Mac is not here to make friends.
Spietheron Central. My. Man. -2 on the front had me feeling all kinds of things. Sits at E, 5 back, right in this thing with a morning tee time. Watch that punch cut on 10. What have I been saying.
Freddie Couples was 2-under through 14 holes at 66 years old before a quad-9 on 15 (two balls in the water) sent things sideways. Still — FREDDIE. Standing ovation.
Rahm — yikes. Not a single birdie. Worst round of his Masters career. The trendy pick delivered a -6 hangover.
Bryson — triple bogey on 11, three shots in the bunker. Walking up 18 muttering "everything is hooking." PFFFFffFFfft.
Xander's tee shot on the par-5 8th landed inside someone's merchandise bag. He used a tee to mark the spot, handed the bag back, played on without penalty and made par. Only at Augusta.
Shane Lowry called it: "I think this could be the toughest Masters we've played in a while." Firm, fast, and unforgiving. Only 16 players in red. That number matters.
L. MARRINAN sits atop 875 other entries to take the sole lead heading into Friday. A clear 1-2-3 with this many entries almost seems impossible. How good is that.
1) L. MARRINAN — -15
2) C. COCHRAN — -14
3) A. BRIEN — -13
T4) M. BIENVENU — -12
T4) T. HEAD — -12
Today is CUT DAY. You need at least 5 players to make the cut to advance to the weekend and have a chance at the purse. Let's see what ANGC drums up.
Still auditing entries but sitting at approximately 876 total. Please get your entry fees in — tracking payments across this many entries is no small task. The purse page has been temporarily taken down since this is now a real public website — it'll be back.
Payouts are calculated at entries × $24 — meaning 96% of all entry fees go directly back into the pot. For the first time in over 10 years of running this thing — coordinating picks, building the site, tracking entries, hunting down payments, getting banned from Venmo — I've taken a 4% commissioner fee for the time and effort. A lot goes into this and I hope it brings some joy to your week.
The People's Team sits at -4 after Round 1, good for T278. Mason Howell (a) at +5 was our most popularly picked player in the entire pool — picked by 39% of entries — followed by Scottie and Tommy Fleetwood. The people had faith. Augusta had other plans.
The Contrarian Team also sits at -4 after Round 1, good for T278. A side battle vs. the People's Team is on! Seeing Rory AND Sam Burns on the contrarian squad... innnnnnteresting. Only 5% of entries took Rory. If you're one of them, you earned it.
The Perfect Team — the theoretical best possible score from each group — sits at -18 after day one. The leader at -15 is just 3 off perfect pace. Room to grow.
Best performing groups in Round 1 were Groups 1 & 2 — appropriately so — with their top 5 sitting at -6. Shoutout to Group 6 who got in the clubhouse at -5. Worst day in the pool? Group 11 — the amateurs. Howell +5, Fang +2. Rough day in the Crow's Nest. 😂
Drop your favorite shot or moment from Thursday in the Water Cooler Talk tab, and enjoy the day! 🌸⛳
Enjoy the day! 🌸⛳
